Tariff
Octopus Tracker: a new price every day, in plain English
Octopus Tracker sets a single price for the whole day, published in advance and tied to wholesale energy costs. In calm markets it has often undercut the price cap; in a spike it can rise above it, and moving off the tariff takes a couple of weeks.
| Best for | Bill-watchers comfortable with day-to-day movement, in exchange for prices that track the wholesale market down. |
| You need | A working smart meter. Tolerance for a variable daily price. |
The catch
Tracker transfers wholesale risk to you. If prices jump you carry the increase until you switch tariff, which is not instant. Do not choose it if a surprise expensive month would genuinely hurt.
