Switching from Scottish Power
Octopus Energy vs Scottish Power: what changes when you switch
Scottish Power and Octopus both track the Ofgem cap on standard variable tariffs, so the switch rarely changes a default bill much. The differences that matter are smart tariff range, service handling and the referral credit for joining Octopus directly.

Before you start
- Scottish Power fixes often carry exit fees. Check yours before starting; the fee can exceed the referral credit.
- You can leave any fixed tariff penalty-free in the last 49 days of the term.
- The switch is handled between suppliers. You do not need to call Scottish Power to cancel.
Do not switch from Scottish Power if
If you are inside a Scottish Power fix priced below the current cap, stay until the final 49 days. A one-off credit does not outweigh a cheaper unit rate held for months.
